Apex Construct Free Content Update Adds a Competitive Edge

Having launched bow and arrow based first-person shooter (FPS) Apex Construct several months ago for PlayStation VR, folowed by Oculus Rift and HTC Vive in March, Fast Travel Games has announced a new competitive update called Cygnia Cup Challenge.

Apex Construct

Expanding the single-player experience of Apex Construct, in Cygnia Cup Challenge, the player will be transported to a shifted pre-apocalypse arena to take part in a highscore challenge with global leaderboards. The arena has six locations for players to fight in, each one more difficult than the last.

The aim is to shoot as many targets whilst taking out enemies as possible to keep the combo meter up. Beware as the robots do shoot back and if you die then it’s game over. Highscores can only be achieved through excellent accuracy and knowledge of the different arrow types Apex Construct has to offer. As an add bonus, participating in the Cygnia Cup Challenge also earns you RP which you can spend on upgrades or consumables in the campaign.

“We are immensely proud of the bow mechanics in Apex Construct and while the main adventure in the game is a long one, players have been asking for additional ways to make use of their acquired combat skills,” explains Fast Travel Games’ Creative Director Erik Odeldahl. “We decided to create and deliver a new, competitive feature where they can bring these skills to challenge other players across the world.”

Fast Travel Games’ PR & Marketing Manager Andreas Juliusson also adds: “With the global leaderboards, which are visible in-game, we will find out who the best archers in the world are. We also have plans to initiate Cygnia Cup contests at a later stage, with some exciting prizes, so players should start practicing and try to climb the leaderboards today.”

Apex Construct is Fast Travel Games’ first VR title, putting players in a surreal vision of the future where mankind is no more and the world is run by robots and AI. VRFocus gave the PlayStation VR version a five star review, saying: “Apex Construct  is the standard by which future VR titles will be judged, and an indicator that VR has stepped up its game.”

The Cygnia Cup Challenge update is available now across all three platforms. For any further updates, keep reading VRFocus.
