Continuing its massive expansion of Elite Dangerous, Frontier Developments has revealed the launch date for the next installment of the Thargoids story, with Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter Two due to arrive on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 28th June.
As before, the update is free to all Elite Dangerous players, focusing on community-requested enhancements to the overall experience as well as new in-game content. This will help to progress the player-driven storyline and give pilots new tools to shape the ongoing narrative.
Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter Two is the first of the two smaller installments coming as part of the Elite Dangerous Beyond series of updates, with a larger one coming in Q4 of this year. This month players will be able to fly the Alliance’s newest Chieftain variant: the Alliance Challenger, a frontline combat vessel which has stronger armour than its Chieftain counterpart and able to soak up a significant amount of punishment.
There’s a selection of new wing missions and commanders will now be able to scan and interact with Space Installations with a selection of options:
- Scan – Scanning the installation will allow Commanders to see what they can interact with: Turrets, Comms Arrays and Cargo Bays.
- Turret hack – Disable turrets protecting other potential hackable points. This will deactivate security measures put in place to protect the Comms Arrays and Cargo Bays.
- Comms array – Get tradable data from the Comms Array.
- Cargo bay – Fire a limpet on the Cargo Bay to unlock and steal commodities and materials.
Additionally, there will be new settlements to explore and, to combat the ever-growing Thargoid threat, Tech Brokers will allow commanders to unlock large weapons versions of the existing guardian tech weapons.
As for the Thargoids themselves, they’ll be introducing new Scouts that will buff other Scouts and increase their combat efficiency.
Elite Dangerous: Beyond – Chapter Two will be available for free on 28th June. Currently available on Steam for £19.99 GBP the title supports both Oculus Rift and HTC Vive (it can also be found on the Oculus Store). VRFocus will continue its coverage of Frontier Developments and Elite Dangerous, reporting back with the latest updates.
