Augmented reality (AR) mobile app Krikey have announced a new networked mini-game as part of the FIFA World Cup 2018 celebration. This new update will allow players to go up against each other to see who can score the most goals and, if they so wish, see who really is the best team.
The Krikey launched back in February of this year allow users a number of different AR options to interact with the real world. This includes a digital lion, black panther and even a manta ray. Since then, the application has continued to get updates to bring new content to it and expand the options available to users. Always focusing on AR as a source of entertainment the team are looking to push the boundaries of the technology in new and exciting ways.
Beyond interacting with the 3D objects that the app is able to display within the real world, users are able to take advantage of the social side of Krikey. This includes the newly released Soccer Game where players, each using their own device, and see who is able to score the most goals in a fun, fast paced multiplayer experience. These social AR mini-games come in many forms within the app including a Pinata and Basketball mini-game as well.
The team behind Krikey are hoping to cultivate a positive community for the next generation of storytellers with the functionality built into their app. Users are able to interact with the 3D objects and create their own story stories within AR and share them easily. The accessible nature of the app is key to achieving this goal however, as Krikey has been designed to allow anyone with a mobile device to bringing interacting within AR space.
Created by Jhanvi and Ketaki Shriram, the two sisters came together to in 2012 to work on a feature film titled “True Son” which premiered at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival and was acquired by FusionTV/Univisio. Is was this collaboration that showed them that they would work together and create a number of virtual reality (VR) films before finding themselves interested in creating AR products and ultimately, Krikey.
