A Trip Through French History with Vivez Versailles

The Palace at Versailles is one of the most famous historical sites in France, and has been the location for a number of pivotal events which have had a significant impact on the world. The developers of Vivez Versailles invite users to visit some of those events with the power of virtual reality (VR).

Educational VR experiences are getting an increasing amount of traction as a method to show people places and events they wouldn’t otherwise be able to see, and show how history occurred in a way that is more immersive and entertaining.

Vivez Versailles is very much an educational VR experience that takes the user to tow possible events from the history of the Palace of Versailles.

The first is the visit of the Siamese ambassadors that took place during the reign of Louis XIV. This was an attempt by King Louis XIV to win a new ally in the East as part of the French efforts to increase their influence and confound their enemies at the time, the Dutch.

The other event on offer is the Yew Tree Ball, which was organised by Louis XV. The Yew Tree Ball was a famous masked ball that was held in the Hall of Mirrors at Versailles in 1745. Fifteen thousand people were said to have attended the event, which became famous for being the night when the king first met Jeanne-Antoinette Poisson, better known as the Madame de Pompadour.

Players will be able to explore the Palace of Versailles, follow the steps of the Siamese ambassadors and even take part in the masked ball.

The title has two main language options for English and French, and a narrator can provide commentary and further information if players interact with certain items and people of interest.

Vivez Versailles is available for free on Steam and is compatible with the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Further information can be found on the Steam store page. As usual, VRFocus will keep you updated on new and upcoming VR content.
