Credited by many with kicking off the augmented reality (AR) boom, Pokémon Go has been a massive success for its developers at Niantic Labs. Released two years ago, the excitement has since died down somewhat, but the title still boasts a substantial player base, as proven by the recent revenue announcement.
According to reports compiled by the Sensor Tower Store Intelligence, players of Pokémon Go continue to spend more than $2 million (USD) per day, which has led to revenues from the title exceeding $1.8 Billion.

Across the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, the USA is responsible for 34% of revenue gathered, while Japan accounts for 28%. Germany, the UK and Taiwan are next on the list, with 5%, 4% and 3% of revenue, respectively.
While Pokémon Go is no longer the No 1 earning app in the world, a feat it managed for 74 consecutive days in 2016 during Summer, it is still a top 10 app be revenue, ranking at No. 9 for June 2018, and grossing an estimated $70 million worldwide.
On the Apple App Store, the app remains one of the top 10 grossing charts in 21 counties, including the USA, the UK, Germany and Canada, and coming in at no. 14 on Japan’s iPhone chart.
Niantic are continuing to try and improve the app and offer new features, and of course, new Pokémon for players to catch. The developers have also been experimenting with improved and updated AR technology to make the app more immersive for players and take advantage of updated AR tech such as ARKit and ARCore.
