No matter how much you may try to escape it, Pokémon GO continues to be one of the most popular augmented reality (AR) mobile experiences and is still going strong. Following the second anniversary of the release of the title and the celebrations that took place, developer Niantic Labs have dropped the first teaser for the next generation of Pokémon to come to the title.
In a recent tweet on the official Pokémon GO account, an image was posted in celebration of the second anniversary which featured a number of Pokémon joining in the fun. Within this image though which features multiple characters and dozens of Pokémon there are three which have not yet been added to the title. They are Chimchar, Piplup, and Turtwig all three of which are from the fourth generation of Pokémon titles more specifically Pokémon Diamond, Pearl and Platinum.
This does not really come as a surprise that Niantic would be teasing the release of the fourth generation of Pokémon given that they have so far being releasing them in order. Of course, this image does mean that the release of the generation could be closer then players might have thought the Pokémon GO Fest that is currently taking place has, so far, not had an official announcement regarding their release. Meanwhile, Pokémon such as Celebi are available to capture during the event.

Pokémon GO added the second generation of Pokémon to the title back in February of last year with the generation three Pokémon added over two updates in late 2018. Since then the Alolan Pokémon were added but there this has been the first mention of anything related to the fourth generation. It is no surprise that Niantic want to space out the updates so not to burn out their players but given the recent reveal of the title hitting $1.8 billion (USD) in revenue, the company should not have to worry about that to much.
With Pokémon GO Fest 2018 taking place over this weekend an announcement on the release of generation four could take place but it is anyone’s guess until then. When it does happen though, VRFocus will be sure to bring you all the details.
