Snail Games launched dinosaur spin-off ARK Park from Studio Wildcard’s ARK: Survival Evolved back in March for PlayStation VR, Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. For dino fans eager to get hold of a physical copy of the videogame on Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) headset, worldwide distributor Solutions 2 GO has announced retail stores will see be stocking the title this Fall.
ARK Park takes a completely different angle to ARK: Survival Evolved’s survival sandbox gameplay where players have to tame the reptilian creatures and create their own settlements. Instead, players find themselves inside a dinosaur theme park, able to freely explore this grand, virtual world where there’s no set plot line or schedule.
In the videogame players will have the opportunity to explore ten large maps containing various creatures, collectables, challenges and easter eggs. Locations can be explored by yourself or with a group of other players. Users will be able to collect ‘Gene Fragments’ which can be found using various combinations of puzzle-solving, reflexes or resource management to get hold of the rarest fragments. These fragments can then be used to unlock new crafting blueprints, or even new maps to explore.
Adding to the interactivity, simulation elements such as dinosaur breeding, where players can collect and take care of eggs are also available. Depending on the dinosaur once an egg has been hatched, the creature can be raised and trained. In the case of more dangerous dinosaurs players will sometimes need to fight them using a selection of weaponry, both ranged and melee, this can be done either alone or in co-operative multiplayer.
Most recently Snail Games launched the first DLC for ARK Park in the form of Pterosaur Hill. With a theme of flight, the DLC features three new maps to explore: Mountain Lake, Crystal Sky Lift, and Aviary, plus a new battle map; Death Valley. Each one having a new mode of transport or dinosaur.
Currently Solutions 2 GO has confirmed an exact date other than ‘Fall 2018’ or how many territories the company plans on distributing the title in. When those details become available VRFocus will let you know.
