With the rising popularity of virtual reality (VR), a number of existing theme parks and other attractions are exploring adding location-based VR experiences to the current line-up. Madame Tussauds has had some experience with VR already, and now it San Francisco location is adding its own unique VR experience.
The new VR experience has been titled simply as ‘Virtual Room’ and is due to open at Madame Tussauds San Francisco on Monday, 3rd September, 2018.
The story of the Virtual Room experience is set in 2217. A temporal rift has been detected in the past, and it is risking damage to history that could result in all of humanity being wiped from history. The players need to journey through history to repair the timeline.
Gameplay is primarily puzzle-based, players will need to accomplish tasks such as repairing the Apollo 11 moon lander, fight off dinosaurs before they have you for lunch and dive into the depths of the ocean.
Each player will get their own dedicated room which has been specifically designed and equipped with customised VR gear. Madame Tussauds worked in partnership with Virtual Room USA t develop the experience, which allows groups of two to four people to participate in four 15-minute timed challenges all while collaborating and communicating with teammates.
Previously, Madame Tussauds have launched VR experiences at other locations, such as the Ghostbusters: Dimensions experience created by THE VOID at the New York Location, which allows visitors to experience the thrill of visiting some of the iconic locations from the film and busting some ghosts.
The Virtual Room at Madame Tussaids San Francisco is not included with a standard ticket for the attraction and separate tickets need to be purchased. It is designed for players aged 12 and over, with tickets costing $10 (USD) each.
Further information can be found on the Madame Tussauds San Francisco website. As usual, VRFocus will continue to report on other new VR experiences.
