In July 3rd Eye Studios announced that its sci-fi thriller, Downward Spiral: Horus Station, would be released this month for PlayStation 4 with PlayStation VR support. Today, the studio has confirmed this is no longer the case, with an exact date being 18th September 2018.
The zero-gravity space adventure continues on from Downward Spiral: Prologue, which was designed more as an introduction to the design and gameplay. As such, Downward Spiral: Horus Station is much bigger in terms of scope and scale, with more of the ship to explore and weapons to find – like bolt throwers, rail guns, and arc welders.
With a heavy narrative players have to unravel through the environment Downward Spiral: Horus Station puts them on a seemingly empty space station abandoned by its crew. Players have to uncover what happened whilst solving various puzzles in their path and either choosing to fight or avoid dangers unknown.
“Combining the thought-provoking mysteries of sci-fi classics like 2001: A Space Odyssey and Solaris with interactive exploration has been a dream of ours for years, and we can’t wait for a whole new audience to experience Downward Spiral: Horus Station’s unique atmosphere and story,” said Gregory Louden, Lead Designer of 3rd Eye Studios. “While entirely captivating on a flat screen, Downward Spiral: Horus Station cranks the immersion up to 11 for those with PlayStation VR – especially if used in tandem with the PlayStation Move controllers!”
To ensure there’s something for everyone, 3rd Eye Studios has included various control schemes depending on how immersed in VR every like to get. Additionally the campaign doesn’t need to be played single-player as there’s a co-op option, plus there’s a game mode that removes all the combat entirely. On top of the story campaign, there’s eight-player PvP and PvE multiplayer modes including Deathmatch, Horde and Survivor challenges.
Downward Spiral: Horus Station arrives on 18th September for PlayStation 4, with optional PlayStation VR support, for $19.99 USD / €14.99 EUR/ £14.99 GBP. For any further updates, keep reading VRFocus.
