Oculus Connect 5 has seen a wealth of new announcements roll out today, with Oculus Quest the main headliner. Oculus Rift users have seen the software platform updated with new customisation features and Dash improvements. Also making Oculus Rift easier to use is the added support for the Oculus Mobile app.
Originally designed for both Samsung Gear VR and Oculus Go, the mobile app allow users of either headset to download videogames, see events and connect with friends. Now all these features are available for Oculus Rift, with the main ability being the fact that users can browse the store and remote install content ready for when they return home.
The app supports both iOS and Android devices enabling any smartphone user to stay connected with their Oculus Rift and its online VR community.
2019 looks to be quite the year for Oculus users whether they are mobile or PC-based. Oculus Go is getting YouTube VR and new title Covert, both of which were revealed this evening. Lone Echo II has been officially unveiled for Oculus Rift and Vox Machinae has now launched for the headset.
Yet Oculus Rift is going to have some tough competition next year from within its own ranks. Oculus Quest will be the same price yet offer a very similar experience to its bigger brother with out the need for wires. Due to the Oculus ecosystem Oculus Quest will likely get the mobile features at some point to make it just as user friendly.
For now however there’s plenty of new features in Oculus Home and Dash to be playing with. As further details emerge from the conference VRFocus will keep you updated.
