A Matter Of Perspective In Wall Walker

Up until very recently, the vast majority of virtual reality (VR) videogames rely on teleportation for movement. This is primarily to avoid simulation sickness symptoms, but also to allow users to move around quickly and smoothly in a 360-degree environment. VR videogame Wall Walker is a title which explores the consequences of teleportation and spacial awareness in a VR environment.

Wall Walker is a VR puzzle title created by an independent developer named Mark Sowders. It is described as a spatial reasoning puzzle title which is based around the idea of constantly changing perspectives in order to find the solution.

A variety of environments are depicted in Wall Walker, ranging from neon-lit grid patterns floating in space, to mysterious ancient temples or frozen wastelands with walls built from solid blocks of ice.

The object is to move objects in order to find the puzzle solution. This often comes in the shape of a button that can only be pressed from a certain area at a certain angle. This sometimes means that a cube needs to be accurately thrown in order to hit the button.

The developer notes that the title was originally going to explore the concept of what happens when a player teleports inside of a wall, but then says that ‘Snowmen rudely interrupted’. It is not entirely clear what role the Snowmen play in Wall Walker, except that they seem to be antagonists of some description.

Wall Walker was designed specifically for the HTC Vive, but the developer says it should function on other VR headsets, such as Oculus Rift or Windows Mixed Reality devices. The title can be bought from Steam, priced at £5.75 (GBP), which includes a 20% launch discount on the usual price of £7.19.
