If you’re not one for catching cute Pokémon in Pokémon Go or fighting the undead in The Walking Dead: Our World, then maybe Ghostbusters World is more your thing. Another augmented reality (AR) title where you can walk the streets of where you live, this time hunting for spectral entities, Ghostbusters World is due to launch by the end of the year, with today seeing pre-registrations open on the Apple and Google stores.
To mark the pre-registration launch Sony Pictures Consumer Products, Ghost Corps and publisher FourThirtyThree Inc. (4:33) have released a special recruitment trailer featuring Kinda Funny’s Greg Miller. Featuring everyone’s favourite hungry ghost ‘Slimer’, the trailer gives a rundown of all the different modes that’ll feature as well as some of the ghosts you’ll encounter.
Built using Google’s ARCore and Apple’s ARKit, Ghostbusters World lets you team up with Venkman, Spengler, Stantz, Zeddemore and more to hunt down and capture iconic spirits from the films, TV shows, comic books, and video games, as well as brand-new ghosts.
Mixing both single-player AR battles and multiplayer role playing game (RPG) elements, players need to find hundreds of different ghosts, all with their own special attributes. These can then be used in the Story and PvP modes, which involve turn-based tactical combat. Ghosts can be leveled up in the single-player section before taking into multiplayer, helping ensure those wins.
The PvP mode is in the Ghost Dimension which also features Gozer’s Tower and the Daily Haunt for more gameplay options. Of course no Ghostbuster videogame would be complete without the Stay Puft marshmallow man, which players can take on together in the Raid mode, alongside other teamed focused boss fights.
Ghostbusters rookies can sign up today for iOS here, and for Android here. There’s still no confirmed launch date just yet, but with Halloween not far away that would make a good time to appear. As further details are announced, keep reading VRFocus.
