David Lynch has caused many people to question what was real, what was dream and spawned endless discussions about what lines of dialogue mean with the creation of TV show Twin Peaks. Now that surreal atmosphere is making its debut in virtual reality (VR).
Twin Peaks VR is being created by Collider Games along with Showtime, complete with creator David Lynch to make sure the VR version is just as strange as the TV incarnation.
The VR adaptation will utilise story elements from the 2017 revival Twin Peaks: The Return as well as from the1990s two season TV incarnation.
The objective of the title is to break out of the ‘Red Room’ and return to the real world. For those not familiar with the series, the Red Room is a strange other dimension where characters talk backwards and is filled with strange, nightmarish creatures and imagery, including an alternate version of yourself which will chase you endlessly.
“Players will travel to Glastonbury Grove, only to end up in the puzzling Red Room,” according to a statement from Collider, “Fans of the series will follow in the footsteps of Special Agent Dale Cooper and try to make their way back into the life they left behind.”
According to a tweet posted on Showtime’s official Twin Peaks account, attendees of the Festival of Disruption next weekend in Los Angeles, “Will get to immerse in the world of Twin Peaks, from Glastonbury Grove to the Red Room, with a first look at Twin Peaks VR.”
The Festival of Disruption is an art and music event hosted by David Lynch will run from 13th-14th October at the Ace Hotel in Los Angeles. Proceeds from the festival g towards the David Lynch Foundation, which aims to help people heal from stress and trauma.
Twin Peaks VR will be released on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. A release date has not yet been confirmed. For future coverage of Twin Peaks VR and other upcoming VR titles, keep checking back with VRFocus.
