NVIDIA’s range of TITAN graphics cards have always embodied the pinnacle of each series that it sits atop of. Having announced the new GeForce RTX 20 Series during Gamescom this summer, the company has gradually rolled out the various iterations, the 2070, 2080 and the 2080 Ti. Now, the company has its most powerful consumer-level GPU to date, the NIVIDA TITAN RTX.
The desktop GPU is designed to provide massive performance for AI research, data science and creative applications thanks to its Turing architecture. TITAN RTX – dubbed ‘T-Rex’ by NVIDIA – delivers ray-traced and next-gen virtual reality (VR) graphics as well as high-performance computing.
To give you an idea of what NVIDIA has managed to squeeze into the GPU here’s a few specs:
- 576 multi-precision Turing Tensor Cores, providing up to 130 teraflops of deep learning performance.
- 72 Turing RT Cores, delivering up to 11 GigaRays per second of real-time ray-tracing performance.
- 24GB of high-speed GDDR6 memory with 672GB/s of bandwidth — 2x the memory of previous-generation TITAN GPUs — to fit larger models and datasets.
- 100GB/s NVIDIA NVLink can pair two TITAN RTX GPUs to scale memory and compute.
- Incredible performance and memory bandwidth for real-time 8K video editing.
“Turing is NVIDIA’s biggest advance in a decade – fusing shaders, ray tracing, and deep learning to reinvent the GPU,” said Jensen Huang, founder and CEO of NVIDIA. “The introduction of T-Rex puts Turing within reach of millions of the most demanding PC users — developers, scientists and content creators.”
To ensure the TITAN RTX is ready for the next generation of VR tech the GPU has the VirtualLink port built in. This is a new specification high-bandwidth USB Type-C cable specifically for VR that companies like Nvidia, HTC Vive, Oculus, Valve, AMD and Microsoft have been working on.
But before you get your hopes up on upgrading to this new GPU you might think again looking at the price, a rather substantial $2,499 USD. That puts it significantly higher than the NVIDIA Geforce RTX 2080 Ti which retails for around $1,099.
The TITAN RTX will be available later this month in the US and Europe. For further updates from NVIDIA, keep reading VRFocus.
