Community Download: Do You Use Viveport?

Community Download: Do You Use Viveport?

Community Download is a weekly discussion-focused articles series published every Monday in which we pose a single, core question to you all, our readers, in the spirit of fostering discussion and debate.

PC gaming is in a weird spot right now. With the rise of the Epic Games Store, Humble’s store, the Discord store, itch.io, GOG, Uplay, EA’s Origin, and many others there are more places for gamers to buy PC games digitally than there have been in a very long time. Steam is no longer the only game in town.

Back when the HTC Vive first launched, Steam was the end-all be-all. Oculus Rift had the Oculus Home store, plus Steam support, but if you owned a Vive then you were probably a heavy Steam user. Now in 2019, HTC is making a much heavier push for their own storefront as well with Viveport.

While the company is still waiting on its own huge, blockbuster title the deep sales are making it more attractive than ever before. And at CES last month HTC unveiled the upcoming Viveport Infinity program which will grant unlimited access to hundreds of VR games for one small monthly fee, as opposed to a curated list as it works currently. Not to mention Viveport supports both Vive and Rift headsets.

With so many options out there, how does one choose? Are you still using just Steam for your VR content, or do you use Viveport? Why or why not?
