Community Download is a weekly discussion-focused articles series published every Monday in which we pose a single, core question to you all, our readers, in the spirit of fostering discussion and debate.
Last week was a big week for the VR community as we not only had F8 to contend with, but the embargo lifted on reviews for the Rift S and Oculus Quest, as well as details and hands-on reveals with the upcoming Valve Index.
It’s been a while since I’ve posted a Community Download due to how busy we’ve all been, but I figured now is a great time to bring it back. Since the Valve Index has been officially revealed as one of the most premium and high-end VR headsets coming to the consumer market, it seemed like a great topic to discuss.
If you’re unaware, you can check out the specs breakdown here and our hands-on impressions here. From what you’ve seen: What do you think of the Valve Index? Do you plan on buying just the headset, the headset and controllers, or the full $999 package? Or maybe none of it at all, instead sticking with what you’ve got or getting a different, more affordable headset?
Clearly Facebook is trying to lower prices and get as many users into VR as possible, whereas Valve seems content to push the boundaries of fidelity and try to offer the best quality possible — even at a huge price.
Let us know what you think of the Index, its price, and Valve’s approach to VR down in the comments below!
