Virtual reality (VR) specialist Survios has a very respectable back catalogue of titles which include Raw Data, Creed: Rise to Glory and Electronauts. Today, the studio has announced its latest project set to arrive later this year, a pirate-themed combat experience called Battlewake.
It looks like Battlewake is set to become one of the biggest titles from Survios yet, featuring both single-player and multiplayer options. Players will be able to explore a 20-chapter story campaign as one of four pirate lords Diego, Rev, Calavera, or Zhang, either on their own or cooperatively with a mate. The dynamic Warfare Mode is also co-op, with players having to work together to complete various objectives.
Or for those that have pure carnage in mind then there’s always the free-for-all PvP deathmatch mode. Here, players can unleash their full arsenal, with upgradable ships offering 13 different ship-based weapons (both real and imagined), such as flak cannons, ballistae and axe-throwers. Battlewake also features a magical element allowing players to unleash devastating tsunamis, stormy maelstroms and even the legendary Kraken.
As players progress they’ll be able to earn gold which can be spent in the captain’s quarters, levelling up not only the ship and its arsenal but also the Pirate Lord skills and abilities.
To ensure players don’t suffer any dreaded sea sickness effects Survios has created what it calls the ‘Immersive Vehicle System’. “Using Adaptive Physics and Peripheral Effects subsystems, players can focus on the battle at hand and take on the wildest waves, while limiting the common triggers of sea-sickness,” notes the studio in a press release.
Survios plans on releasing Battlewake for both location-based entertainment (LBE) venues and home VR platforms, with the arcade version supporting up to 10 players. The studio hasn’t made any direct mention of which platforms will be available at launch, but you can sign-up for a closed beta which mentions HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, Oculus Quest and PlayStation VR in a drop-down box.
The studio will also be taking the videogame to the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2019 next month ahead of an expected summer 2019 launch.
