Whether it’s NextVR broadcasting live events in 360-degrees or TheWaveVR offering digital performances featuring artists like Imogen Heap, virtual reality (VR) is beginning to offer new ways to enjoy music and connect with artists. Joining this list is RedPill VR and Sensorium Corporation, unveiling a prototype Social Virtual Reality (SVR) platform for music lovers worldwide.
Mixing live performances with audience interaction, the SVR platform will give users the ability to hang out as they would at a real concert, watching world-famous artists perform whilst being able to freely move around these virtual worlds to engage with other participants.
The partnership between RedPill VR and Sensorium has seen RedPill VR develop the SVR platform with Sensorium while entering into partnerships with concert venues to digitally recreate the environments. These include Barclays Center, Webster Hall, NYCB LIVE and Paramount Theatre. This will enable the platform to create branded and themed virtual worlds based on significant musical events and artist’s performances.
“The technology platform focuses on shaping the future of the music industry through a revolutionary interactive social network and content platform that connects everyone through the power of music, creativity and art in high-end virtual reality,” said Laurent Scallie, CEO, RedPill VR in a statement.
“SVR overcomes the main emotional drawback of modern technologies when using virtual reality: the isolation that users feel,” added Ingvar Goldman, CVO, Sensorium Corporation. “Now everyone can fully dive into the VR-world of music and gaming events and shows, experience new visuals and sounds that they might not see in a live performance, and meet and interact with other people, making friends in our virtual worlds through real-time communication – and they can do it all from inside the headset they’re wearing at home. SVR is a technology of the future that is here today.”
Sensorium has so far raised $70 million USD to date to help to fund the SVR platform. The company has also worked with Jaunt on several recordings of shows from electronic music performers such as David Guetta and Ants shows at Ushuaïa Ibiza, and Black Coffee and Erick Prydz shows at Hï Ibiza.
The prototype SVR platform will make its debut during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) this week, with the official launch of the media platform scheduled to take place in 2020. For further updates, keep reading VRFocus.
