Puzzle games can be a great way to spend some time in virtual reality (VR) and there are plenty to choose from. One puzzle format which is massively popular on mobile devices yet rarely seen in VR is the ‘match 3’ style titles, such as the famous Candy Crush. If you’ve been after a VR experience in a similar vein then you might want to wait a couple of weeks when Invrse Reality launches The Stars Between Us.
Rather than merely providing a seemingly endless puzzle experience continually matching 3 items, Invrse Reality has set its videogame against a love story backdrop. Set amongst the cosmos, The Stars Between Us involves two characters separated by the vastness of space, with the only way of bringing them together being the completion of each puzzle.
Each puzzle takes place on a different planet, with players able to use a drag mechanic to move the individual objects as well as the planets themselves – rather than the puzzle being set on a flat surface. “Join a cast of eccentric characters as they explore the cosmos, complete puzzles, collect charms, and share personal stories of love and loss. Utilize powerful baubles to collect even more charms in over 30 fun-filled levels, with more to come!” states the studio.
The Stars Between Us is scheduled for release via Steam on 20th August 2019, supporting headsets including Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index. The title is designed as a nice relaxing experience which players can enjoy either seated or standing.
This isn’t the first VR title from Invrse Reality. The studio was behind online multiplayer sniper experience The Nest. Launched in 2016, the title is still in Early Access and completely free to download.
