As is customary in October, videogame developers generally like to add a little Halloween twist to their titles. XR Games has done so for PlayStation VR exclusive Angry Birds Movie 2 VR: Under Pressure and now another party experience is doing the same. LA-based indie team Dimnhouse has announced that its Early Access videogame Takelings House Party will be getting a scary makeover next week.
Takelings House Party is a local party experience designed for up to nine players, with one person in virtual reality (VR) while eight more can join in via iOS and Android apps – much like Resolution Games’ Acron: Attack of the Squirrels. The VR player takes the role of Hal, an everyday bloke who finds his quiet suburban home overrun by little mischevious pests called Takelings.
Mobile players assume the role of the Takelings, scampering around causing chaos, and Hal needs to get rid of them. In its current Early Access form on Steam, Oculus Store and Viveport, Takelings House Party currently offers three minigames set in different areas of the house as well as a Free Play mode and Party Mode.
For the Takelings Scare Party event, the entire title has had a makeover, with Hal and the Takelings now wearing spooky costumes and the house now decked out with skulls, pumpkins, cobwebs and other Halloween inspired decorations. The seasonal Halloween event starts next Thursday 24th October through 26th November, after which time the house will return to normal.
Supporting Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality headsets, Dimnhouse released the title back in July, expecting Early Access to last around three months (around now). The final version will feature five minigames alongside adding further balance to the Party Mode. The studio also wants to add AI Takelings to either bolster the Takeling count in parties or possibly for a solo mode.
Takelings House Party is available via Steam for £15.49 GBP or Oculus Store for £14.99. The companion app for Android and iOS devices is free to download here. VRFocus will continue its coverage of Takelings House Party and all the other social party titles.
