Iron Man VR was due to launch last month on 28th February but saw a delay pushing the exclusive launch on PlayStation VR back to 15th May. The title is gearing up to be one of the biggest for the PlayStation 4 headset in 2020 and now it looks like there could be a playable demo on its way.
A bot Twitter account called @PSNRelease which tracks videogames added to the PlayStation Store has published two listings relating to a Marvel’s Iron Man VR demo which has appeared on the Japanese and Asian PSN. Currently, neither Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) nor developer Camouflaj have confirmed a demo is being released so there’s no way of knowing whether it’ll arrive on or before the official launch of the main title in May.
SIE announced Marvel’s Iron Man VR during its first State of Play broadcast a year ago, offering players a chance to step into the famous suit of armour like never before. The second virtual reality (VR) title from Camouflaj – the first being casual stealth experience République VR – Marvel’s Iron Man VR will feature an original storyline rather than one linked to the movies.
“Tony Stark has retired from making weapons and instead creates technology used to battle evil as Iron Man,” explains the synopsis. “After several years as a world-famous Super Hero, Tony is attacked by the mysterious Ghost, a hacker and anti-corporate activist who repurposes old Stark Industries weapons. In her efforts to topple his empire, Ghost attacks Stark’s corporate locations around the world, leading to ever-escalating stakes and a final showdown.”
The demo could be similar to the one featured at several events last year. VRFocus demoed this early training level at Gamescom, finding that using the PlayStation Move controllers to fly like Iron Man worked surprisingly well and that fans should be excited about this instalment: “Iron Man VR could very well be one of PlayStation VR’s biggest hits.”
Before then PlayStation VR fans can also look forward to puzzle title FORM, Paper Beast, Down the Rabbit Hole, The Room VR: A Dark Matter and Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories.
VRFocus will continue its coverage of Marvel’s Iron Man VR as the launch date nears, reporting back with further updates and announcements.
