Applications Open for Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds’ Closed Beta

Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds

At the end of July inXile Entertainment officially announced its latest project, a team-based multiplayer shooter called Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds. The title is slated to launch later this year but ahead of that, the studio is holding a closed beta which you can now apply for.

Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds

Applications for the closed beta opened today, looking for PC VR players who own Oculus Rift/Rift S, HTC Vive/Vive Pro or Valve Index headsets. The beta will begin next week, starting on 24th August and running through to 4th September, all through Steam. All participants have to agree to an NDA, which forbids capturing, sharing, or streaming the title.

“For this beta test, Thirdverse and inXile will be accepting a pool of testers, invited in waves throughout the Closed Beta period, to help achieve testing goals,” notes the studio. There’s also a bonus for really active participants. When Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds officially launches those beta players who have met specific playtime requirements will get a free copy of the videogame.

Having previously released VR role-playing game (RPG) The Mage’s Tale back in 2017, Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds will be stepping away from inXile Entertainment’s usual comfort zone. The first-person shooter (FPS) will allow up to 20 players in teams of 10 to fight across four maps set around an abandoned military base in Antarctica.

Set to offer a selection of PvP game modes where players will have a selection of realistic weapons to fight with, there will also be a third enemy contingent. Adding a sci-fi twist, all human players will have to deal with strange biomechanical creatures which roam the frozen environment.

Alongside all the normal hardware there will be some futuristic guns to play with as well as grenades, health kits, armour upgrades, turrets, and tracking upgrades to aid players on the battlefield.

Frostpoint VR: Proving Grounds will see a global release in 2020 supporting ten languages. As further details on the project are released, VRFocus will keep you updated.
