The next 12 months are going to see an influx of augmented reality (AR) glasses which connect to smartphones to utilise 5G. One of these is the Nreal Light which has just launched in South Korea in partnership with LG Uplus.
Designed to be compact enough to be worn just like sunglasses, the Nreal Light features a 52° field of view (FoV) and connects to a phone via a USB-C cable. Today’s launch will see the glasses bundled either with a Samsung Note 20 or LG Velvet as well as an LG Uplus 5G data plan. It’ll cost consumers 699,000 KRW ($586 USD). Then on 21st August, Nreal Light will appear in LG Uplus’ retail stores throughout South Korea.
The device will come bundled with Nreal’s 3D UI system ‘Nebula’, transforming 2D apps into a 3D interface. Users will be able to watch TV shows and browse the internet, being able to arrange dozens of screens within their view. To ensure there’s plenty of compatibility popular mobile apps such as Google Chrome, Facebook, Kakao Talk and Instagram will all be useable.

Through this, we hope that the popularization of AR will be in full swing and will be further activated in the 5G industry.”
Nreal Light will come bundled with several accessories including a corrective lens frame for nearsighted users and four magnetically attachable nose pads of various sizes. The glasses also include a VR Cover acting as a lens shade, for immersive VR experiences.
