Designed to be compact enough to be worn just like sunglasses, the Nreal Light features a 52° field of view (FoV) and connects to a phone via a USB-C cable. Today’s launch will see the glasses bundled either with a Samsung Note 20 or LG Velvet as well as an LG Uplus 5G data plan. It’ll cost consumers 699,000 KRW ($586 USD). Then on 21st August, Nreal Light will appear in LG Uplus’ retail stores throughout South Korea.

The device will come bundled with Nreal’s 3D UI system ‘Nebula’, transforming 2D apps into a 3D interface. Users will be able to watch TV shows and browse the internet, being able to arrange dozens of screens within their view. To ensure there’s plenty of compatibility popular mobile apps such as Google Chrome, Facebook, Kakao Talk and Instagram will all be useable.

“This is a historic moment shaking the foundation of the mobile Internet industry. Nreal is offering the World’s First Consumer Ready AR Glasses, available first in Korea,” said Chi Xu, CEO and Founder of Nreal in a statement. “Our partnership with LG Uplus makes it possible to offer Nreal Light in a way that’s accessible while augmenting the value of your 5G smartphone by empowering you to experience the mobile internet in augmented reality.”

“We wanted to lower the barrier to the AR glass market with a realistic price and lightweight design,” said Song Dae-won, EVP of LG Uplus’s Future Device Unit. “If 5G services were focused on entertainment, this U+ Real Glass (Nreal Light) will provide a rich experience that will change your daily life. Through this, we hope that the popularization of AR will be in full swing and will be further activated in the 5G industry.”

Nreal Light will come bundled with several accessories including a corrective lens frame for nearsighted users and four magnetically attachable nose pads of various sizes. The glasses also include a VR Cover acting as a lens shade, for immersive VR experiences.

No date has been announced for western territories at the moment but a 2020 release is still expected. For further updates, keep reading VRFocus.
