Registrations Open for Stride’s VR Parkour Closed Beta

Stride

Joy Way revealed last week that its parkour-style virtual reality (VR) experience Stride would be coming to Early Access this month, cut down into bite-sized chunks. Ahead of that release the studio will be hosting a closed beta and is currently looking for participants to signup.

The signup window isn’t massive, in fact, there are less than 30 hours remaining until its closes. Registering won’t guarantee you’ll get in as places are limited but if you do you’ll get a Steam key to download the beta, the key providing 2 days access before Joy Way revoke it. Plenty of time to test your wall running skills.

By the looks of it the beta will allow players to test the first game mode the studio previously revealed, ‘Endless’. Its one long procedurally generated level – much like an endless runner – giving you free rein to run, jump and climb your way through it, tackling enemies on route.

As the studio previously announced, plans have now changed when it comes to Stride’s delivery to the marketplace, Joy Way admitting it was ‘too ambitious’. So rather than starting with the main story-driven campaign, smaller gameplay modes will be rolled out first. In addition to ‘Endless’ there will be an ‘Arena’ offering a more spacious environment and ‘Time Chase’ where players can race against the clock.

The main campaign will be released last, although there’s no timeline for when that’ll happen at the moment.

Stride will initially support PC VR headsets like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Valve Index with future plans to bring the videogame to Oculus Quest and PlayStation VR.

Also, take a look at Joy Way’s other VR project Time Hacker and as further details are released, VRFocus will keep you updated.
