The VR Game Launch Roundup: History Comes Alive

HistoryMaker VR

As is often the case during the summer videogame releases tend to slow down as developers prepare for the festive season. So that means pickings can be a little thin, especially where virtual reality (VR) content is concerned. But VRFocus has managed to rustle up a few titles worth a peek.

Stacksquatch

Stacksquatch – Stacksquatch Society

A colourful puzzle title where you have to carefully balance various items to create a tower.

Moose Life – Lamasoft Ltd.

Definitely the weirdest and most surreal of the titles arriving next week, Moose Life is the work of Llamasoft, headed by Jeff Minter. He’s the chap behind classics like Tempest 2000 and more recently PolybiusMoose Life is a psychedelic trance shooter where the goal is a high score but only if you can keep track of your deer.

HistoryMakerVR – Schell Games

The first of two history-focused VR experiences about to arrive, HistoryMaker VR is an educational experience more designed for students. In it participants embody various famous prominent figures from US history, perform a speech and record it to share with others.

  • Supported platforms: Oculus Rift
  • Release date: 13th August

Baalbek Reborn: Temples –
Flyover Zone

Not a videogame, more a unique historical tour, Baalbek Reborn: Temples is the work of the German Archaeological Institute and Flyover Zone. Take a virtual tour of the Roman temples in Baalbek, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Lebanon, and step back in time to the 3rd century. A Time Warp feature allows you to switch between the modern-day ruins and the digital reconstructions.
