Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series Coming to PlayStation VR This Month

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series - PSVR

Star Wars fans might be looking forward to Star Wars: Squadrons in October but PlayStation VR owners can get their sci-fi fix a little sooner as the launch date for Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series has been confirmed thanks to Sony Interactive Entertainment’s (SIE) State of Play broadcast today.

Vader Immortal

Originally an Oculus Quest and Rift exclusive, ILMxLAB confirmed the PlayStation VR version back in May, saying it would arrive this summer. Now you can save the date, 25th August 2020, to delve into this VR experience which offers some of the best lightsaber action of any videogame.

All the action takes place on Mustafar, a harsh volcanic planet which just so happens to be Darth Vader’s home away from the empire. The original storyline is set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, and you play a smuggler who gets pulled out of hyperspace and imprisoned in Vader’s fortress.

Escaping it soon becomes apparent that you possess force powers so Vader takes you under his wing, training you in the ways of the darkside. This means learning abilities like force push as well as mastering the legendary lightsaber.

Vader Immortal

Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series is more of an interactive experience than a fully-fledged videogame, mixing film and gameplay elements. Alongside the core story-driven campaign where you learn about Mustafar’s history, there’s the dojo which works in a similar style to a wave shooter, helping you train and become more familiar with your various abilities.

Vader Immortal holds a very special place in our hearts at ILMxLAB and we are very excited to be bringing this to PlayStation VR. This allows even more fans to experience the first Star Wars story designed exclusively for virtual reality,” said Harvey Whitney, Producer at ILMxLAB in a statement.

The title was first released in episodes but for the PlayStation VR launch you’ll be able to just buy all three for $29.99 USD. Check out VRFocus’ review of Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series, and come back for more updates.
