Helping Track Those Burnt Calories Facebook Introduces Oculus Move

Oculus Move

When it comes to popular virtual reality (VR) apps rhythm-action titles like Beat Saber, Synth Riders and FitXR have all gained fans thanks to their energetic gameplay, in turn helping burn a few calories along the way. To help those gamers who like to use VR for fitness, Facebook announced Oculus Move, an upcoming feature for Oculus Quest.

Oculus Quest 2

Oculus Move is a built-in fitness tracker so you can keep tabs on all those important metrics such as how many calories you’ve burnt or how long you’ve been physically active. Through constant use you’ll be able to see your fitness history across various apps, selecting between each day of the week.

Whether you’re aiming to get fitter or maintain a certain level of fitness goals can be an important part of the process. So Oculus Move will feature the ability to set your own, these will then be tracked across any app, whilst providing real-time stats and in-game overlays for you to monitor.

Whilst there are fitness apps like YUR.watch which can track variables like calories or exercise duration, these are limited to compatible titles. From the information released, Oculus Move won’t have that same issue working with any videogame on the platform, no matter how active it is.

Only revealed during Facebook Connect, Oculus Move will be rolled out to select users later this year.

There’s going to be plenty to keep Oculus Quest owners busy with plenty of content set to be released. Resolution Games’ Blaston has an October date and so does Little Witch Academia: VR Broom Racing, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners and Rez Infinite. Star Wars: Tales from the Galaxy’s Edge is due for release this year as well as Myst, The Climb 2 and Warhammer 40,000: Battle Sister. Or maybe you’re more interested in Oculus Quest 2?
