VRDays Europe is one of the biggest events dedicated to the XR industry, usually hosted across Amsterdam each November. Now in its sixth year, like many events, VRDays Europe is going digital for 2020 and one of its main features, the Church of VR, is looking for those seeking an opportunity to showcase their immersive project to the world.
Every year the Church of VR looks for the best and most innovative XR experiences embracing immersive storytelling. For example, 2019’s event featured Femme Fatale Studio’s The Scream, Emmy award-winning Wolves in the Walls by Fable Studio and ARVORE’s The Line which has picked up numerous accolades including Best VR Immersive Experience for Interactive Content at the Venice Film Festival.
For the first time, the Church of VR will be free, with projects accessible to everyone at home. It’s the only part of the entire festival which is free but you’ll still need to register for a ticket to access the content. For those interested in submitting a project you’ve not got long left, with the closing date being 30th September.
VR festivals this year have been a great way to access free and exciting content, Venice VR Expanded being one of the most recent earlier this month. If you missed that then there’s always London Film Festival’s LFF Expanded next month, offering a similar selection of online works.
VRDays Europe runs from 4th – 6th November 2020, with a selection of online conferences, networking events as well as a virtual exhibition in partnership with Laval Virtual. Only one part of the festival will have a physical presence, the Vision & Impact Hybrid Conference – which will also be live-streamed – on the first day, restricted to 200 seats.
Segments to look out for include the Halo Awards on the first day, celebrating “outstanding European works, performances, projects and the creative people that produced them.” There are three categories Business, Science and Art, and submissions are still open until 15th October.
