It was only back in May that Canadian virtual reality (VR) developer Sinn Studio released details of its fourth project, a medieval combat videogame called Swordsman VR. Today, the studio has confirmed that a multiplatform launch will be taking place in a couple of weeks.

As the name plainly suggests, Swordsman VR is all about tapping into what VR does best, engaging close-quarters combat using a variety of melee weapons, taking down opponents with a skilful slice of your sword. To add some context to the violence, an other-worldly foe called the Jötunn has travelled to Earth to enslave all of humanity. So Earth’s mightiest warriors band together in a bid to stop this event from happening.
You play the unnamed ‘Swordsman’ because you can select your character from one of four cultures – Knights, Vikings, Mongols and Samurai. Each will have their own unique stats whilst being fully customisable and upgradable depending on strategic preference. Different armours for example will not only provide varying degrees of protection but also affect flexibility and speed. There will be 13 armour sets to choose from and 24 weapons and shields.
All the weapon gameplay is physics-driven, designed to be realistic so you can have a proper dual with opponents. There will be some magical elements as well such as Telekinesis to grab weapons and Chronokinesis to manipulate time.

A purely single-player experience, Swordsman VR will feature Campaign and Arena modes alongside gameplay modifiers to mix things up. Test your skills against hardcore enemies or invisible enemies with floating swords, or those who can only be damaged when striking marked body parts.
Swordsman VR will be released on 25th September globally via Steam for Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index and Windows Mixed Reality headsets. The PlayStation VR version will be the same day but only for North America and Europe. For further updates from Sinn Studio, keep reading VRFocus.
