Puzzler Ryte: The Eye Of Atlantis Delayed Until Jan 2021

A lot of virtual reality (VR) developers large and small have had to readjust their launch timescales due to remote working conditions this year. Today, Orichalcum Pictures and VR Connection have confirmed that Ryte: The Eye of Atlantis will see a slight delay, being pushed back into next month.

Ryte: The Eye of Atlantis was due for launch today, via Steam and Oculus Store, supporting Valve Index, HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. That’s no longer happening, with the teams releasing the following statement:

“Due to the remote work adjustments during the COVID-19 second lockdown in France which were necessary to keep everyone healthy, the current version of Ryte: The Eye of Atlantis did not quite reach the technical quality standards that the studio and us have set and wanted to achieve for the release on December 8th.

“With so much work and dedication put into this project we feel we owe the players to deliver the most polished experience and decided to postpone the release to January 27, 2021. We apologize to everyone who was expecting the game today. This decision was not an easy one to make. But achieving excellence is our goal and we apologize about the inconvenience and thank you for your patience”

In comparison to the delay’s suffered by videogames like Marvel’s Iron Man VR, this one isn’t too significant, as it’s less than a couple of months.

Mixing both myth and archaeological history from ancient Greece and Egyptian civilizations, Ryte: The Eye of Atlantis takes players to the fabled city. As an Atlantean you have to save the civilisation from catastrophe, wielding supernatural powers to solve puzzles whilst collaborating with clerics and other characters.

With three weeks left until the end of 2020, another VR title looking very likely to be pushed into the new year is Ready at Dawn’s Lone Echo 2. The team issued an update in October noting that work was ongoing but couldn’t confirm a release date. As it was originally slated for release in 2019 as an Oculus Rift exclusive, the headset could well be discontinued by the time the videogame sees the light of day.
