The virtual reality (VR) machine that is Resolution Games has been firmly concentrating on multiplayer videogames of late and that’s set to continue into 2021. Today, the studio has announced Demeo, a turn-based role-playing game (RPG) coming to most VR devices next year.
From the teasing details Resolution Games has released so far, Demeo comes across as a D&D dungeon crawler where friends team-up to go on fantasy adventures. Heading into a monster-infested underworld, the brief video highlights various character classes, from a heavily armoured knight to an archer and of course a Mage.
A dice also rolls into view, with various attacking, defensive and negative effects, emulating that classic board game experience.
“Many of us here at Resolution Games have incredibly fond memories of spending late nights playing old-fashioned tabletop RPG games with friends,” said Tommy Palm, CEO, Resolution Games in a statement. “For the past few years, we’ve been working to translate that very special experience to virtual reality, and Demeo delivers everything you love about gathering around a table to slay monsters with your friends… without having to furiously erase mistakes from your character sheet.”
“Tabletop games are seeing a renaissance as of late and those players – new and veteran – are as faithful as ever. We carried this weight through the entire dev process to stay true to that core, while creating something from the ground up for VR,” added Mike Booth, board member of Resolution Games and one of the game’s creative directors. “In fact, when we first started sharing early builds of Demeo, more than one industry expert expressed their doubts that anyone could successfully pull off the transformation of such an experience. But then when they put the headset on, they were completely sold.”
This year has seen Resolution Games release Acron: Attack of the Squirrels, Blaston and Cook-Out: A Sandwich Tale as well as updates for some of its other titles. Alongside Demeo, Resolution will be publishing Odd Raven Studios’ Carly and the Reaperman for Oculus Quest next year.
Demeo is slated for a 2021 launch on Oculus Quest and Rift as well as Steam. It won’t be exclusively VR either. The studio is ensuring compatibility for normal PC gaming with cross-play with VR gamers. As further details are released, VRFocus will keep you updated.
