Discover New SideQuest Titles With Official Android app

Oculus Quest 2

Since the launch of the original Oculus Quest back in 2019, the SideQuest platform has been an important part of the community ecosystem, ensuring early virtual reality (VR) projects – or ones that didn’t meet Oculus Store approval – had a way of being noticed by players. While that process has been easier tanks to App Lab, SideQuest is following suit, releasing an Android app today.

SideQuest always relied on sideloading content onto the Oculus Quest via a PC, which was hardly a frictionless experience. With the SideQuest app discovering and playing VR beta and early access titles is much more seamless, as you don’t need a PC anymore.

“One of the most requested SideQuest features is to be able to access it without a PC. Today I am stoked to announce the launch of the SideQuest mobile app, with support for App Lab and sideloading,” Shane Harris, CEO and co-founder of SideQuest in a statement. “We are more committed than ever here at SideQuest to do all we can to bring cutting-edge content to users and to help developers succeed in VR. “We are humbled to have earned the trust of the VR community and we will keep pushing the industry forward in any way we can. We hope you will enjoy a mobile SideQuest experience!”

The app will be familiar to anyone who’s used SideQuest previously, and even if you haven’t navigation tabs let you scroll via genre types such as ‘Adventure’ or ‘Combat’, head to the App Lab section, or see what’s new in the Hot & Fresh section. There are still a number of steps you’ll need to go through to get set up but after that, it should be plain sailing. You’ll need to activate Developer Mode on your Oculus Quest first before downloading the app and then connect your phone to your headset via USB cable initially. After that, there’s a WiFi option enabling wireless sideloading. A full How-to Guide can be found here.
