Oculus Quest 2 128GB is Now Available

Oculus Quest 2

Several weeks ago Facebook made the shock announcement that sales of the popular Oculus Quest 2 would be halted as the company looked to address the irritation issue some users found with the facial interface. And also because a new model with a higher storage capacity would be released. Today, the standalone headset is now back on sale, with the base 64GB model replaced with the newer 128GB version.

As Facebook previously stated, the 128GB Oculus Quest 2 retains the same price of £299 GBP/$299 USD, with the only other difference being that customers will find a silicone cover in the box. This can then be fixed over the foam interface if users need it. Don’t forget that if you already own an Oculus Quest 2 then you can request a free silicone cover.

The Oculus Quest 2 128GB model can be found in stock on Oculus’ website as well as Amazon UK, OverclockersUK and Currys, whilst US customers can pick one up from AmazonBest Buy and Target. The same can’t be said for the 256GB model which seems to be out of stock at most retailers for the time being.

Oculus Quest 2 has dominated the VR market since its launch in October 2020 with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying sales had “exceeded expectations” and is “on track to be the first mainstream virtual reality headset.” That’s been helped in part thanks to a continual stream of new updates improving the platform’s features, whilst more and more developers create content for the system.

Oculus Quest 2 top down

Initiatives like App Lab have made it much easier for indie developers to get their projects onto Oculus Quest, whilst features like Air Link make the headset a cheap solution for PC VR gaming, where rivals like Valve Index retail for almost £1000 for the full kit.

And once you get your Oculus Quest 2 there are all sorts of ways to mod the experience. From unofficial gun stock controllers to lens protectors and new headphones, there’s a whole accessory industry based around the headset.

Facebook has previously said Oculus Quest 2 will have a longer life than its forebear but the company is still planning ahead, already confirming an Oculus Quest Pro is a possibility. More details are expected during Facebook Connect in October. For continued Oculus Quest updates, keep reading VRFocus.
