Unearthing Mars Lands On HTC Vive and Oculus Rift

Increasing numbers of virtual reality (VR) titles are going multi-platform. With HTC Vive and Oculus Rift titles making it on to PlayStation VR, or cut down versions heading to mobile VR platforms, or PlayStation VR titles heading to PC VR. Developer Winking entertainment have announced the launch of its title Unearthing Mars on Steam for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift.

Though designed as a PlayStation VR title from the ground up, and built in Unreal Engine 4 to take advantage of the PlayStation 4 hardware, the developers have tweaked Unearthing Mars enough to provide a smooth experience for HTC Vive and Oculus Rift users.

The storyline involves the player taking the role of a space explorer crashing-landing on Mars, who has to learn how to survive in the Martian environment, but while doing so, discovers fragments that lead to the discovery of a lost, ancient Martian civilisation.

The development team estimate that Unearthing Mars contains roughly two hours of playable content. Each section of the videogame contains different gameplay elements such as driving across the landscape of the Red Planet in a Mars Rover, solving the mysterious puzzles left behind by the ancient civilisation, or battling in first-person shooter style against hostile alien creatures.

Unearthing Mars is currently available for a launch discount of 30%, reducing the price to £7.69 (GBP) from the usual retail price of £10.99, the offer is due to last until 5th July, 2017. Multiple languages are supported, including English, French, German, Japanese and Korean, all in full voice-acted audio, not just subtitled.

Further information can be found on the Unearthing Mars official Steam page.

VRFocus will continue to report on new VR titles.
