Unity is one of the most popular videogame engines currently available. Many virtual reality (VR) titles, such as SuperHot VR were made using Unity. The people behind Unity 3D strive to recognise talent within the Unity creator community with the Unity Awards, and the 2017 Unity Awards have just opened nominations.
Nominations for the 2017 Unity Awards will be accepted until midnight (PT) 10th August, 2017. Once all nominations are in, Unity staff will narrow down the entries to six finalists. Voting will then be opened up to the community. Community votes will count for 50% of the total vote, with the other 50% coming from Unity employees.
New categories have been added since last year. The categories are:
- Best 3D Visuals
- Best 2D Visuals
- Best Desktop/Console Game
- Best Mobile Game
- Best VR Game
- Best Augmented or Mixed Reality Experience
- Best VizSim Project
- Best Cinematic Experience

Nominated projects must have been authored unity Unity and released between 1st October, 2016 and 31st August, 2017 in order to be eligible. Any projects nominated for the Unity Awards 2016 are ineligible for this year’s awards. Games currently in Early Access programs are not considered as final products, so will be ineligible.
