Though Pokemon Go has been a huge success around the world, many people are still disappointed by the lack of certain features, such as PvP battles and more sophisticated augmented reality (AR) support. Developer Zenko Games are aiming to fill that niche that with Diamonst and are seeking Kickstarter funding to make it a reality.
Featuring a complex plot inspired by Japanese cultural mainstays such as the Final Fantasy series, Dragon Ball and Saint Seiya, and well as Pokemon itself and the Lovecraftian Cthulhu mythos. Diamonst aims to create a world where magic and mysterious ancient creatures exist, visible through the lens of your smartphone camera, right there to discover, battle and capture.
Zonko Games are seeking €20,000 (EUR) in funding. Pledging €5 will get users the ‘starter pack’ once the title gets its official launch, will contain all the starting Diamonst monsters, which cannot normally be obtained all at once. Higher funding tiers range from €20 for a backpack featuring the Diamonst logo along with the aforementioned starters pack, to €65 for a pack containing a hoodie and plushie in the shape of Diamonst mascot Kitsu, a cute fox-like critter. The highest tier is €4,000, which allows the person who pledges this tier to be put in the game as one of the bosses who must be defeated by other players.
An early demo version of the title can be found on Google Play for testing, but the developers say they are now working to integrate the more sophisticated AR capabilities or ARKit and ARCore into the title.
The Kickstarter campaign is due to end on 26th November, 2017. If funding is successful, the developers hope to begin rolling out the completed version of Diamonst in January, 2018. Further information can be found on the Kickstarter page.
VRFocus will bring you further information on Diamonst as it becomes available.
