When it comes to sport we cover it a lot on VRFocus, thanks largely in part to our weekly roundup This Week In VR Sport which you can find on the site each and every Saturday at 3PM UK time. Besides that though we do feature sport an awful lot, that’s because when it comes down to it there are a lot of applications that augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and even mixed reality (MR) can be used for in sport. Particularly in training and analysis.
The other big topic of course is the field of broadcasting, something that’s come up time and time again. We’ve had the likes of NextVR tying up with sports outlets, broadcasters and entertainment content creators. FOX Sports working to bring its own programming to life. Companies like Silver.tv showcasing eSports, those held at events run by Intel which we’ve featured with increasing frequency in the last few months – and no doubt will more with this year’s Winter Olympics in South Korea, at which Intel will be providing VR coverage.
But today we’re just concerned with (and not for the first time, either) American Football. Yes, we’re off to take in some 360 degree highlights from the NFL, this time courtesy of the Minnesota Vikings who beat the New Orleans Saints 29-24 just over a week ago to secure their place in the NFL Conference Championship. Now, by the time you read this they will have either tasted glory or defeat at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles who they faced – at the time of posting – yesterday. This is being written on Friday so I absolutely have no idea what has happened. If they are through, aweesome. The run continues. If they are out… er…. think back to happier times with this? They have good reason to be confident going in – the NFL Facebook page recently managed to promote them as being in the Super Bowl despite that not actually being decided yet.
Whatever that result, here you can check out 360 degree footage from various parts of the stadium and various times in the game. From above the bench during a time out as the coach is barking out orders to the side of the pitch to right up in the clouds practically at the top of the stadium.
We have actually featured both the Saints and the Vikings on VRFocus before for other reasons. We’ll probably do so again down the line as well so keep an eye out of that. Who do you think will win the Super Bowl? Let us know below.
