Organ Quarter Opens Up Windows Mixed Reality Support

Organ Quarter was one of the scary virtual reality (VR) titles released in October 2017 to tie in to the spooky Halloween celebrations for those with a HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. Developers Outer Brain Studios have now released a patch which means owners of Windows Mixed Reality devices can also experience the scares.

Outer Brain Studios’ foray into interactive VR horror began with its launch of a pre-alpha demo of Organ Quarter on Steam and Itch.Io, where it received positive feedback from the user base. Following this, the team launched a Kickstarter campaign to finance the full release, easily surpassing its goal of $6,500 (USD). The original release date had to be pushed back after the Florida-based studio suffered the effects of Hurricane Irma.

The studio were aiming to evoke the 90’s era of survival horror, taking inspiration from early 3D horror titles such as Resident Evil, as well as taking a few pages from the surreal horror works of directors such as David Lynch or David Cronenberg. Gameplay involves exploring twisted, decaying environments, managing resources, fighting monsters and solving puzzles while engaging in a narrative that aims to explore the human condition.

The new update means that Organ Quarter now works natively with Windows Mixed Reality devices as well as HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. Other updates include a new ‘Current Ammo’ counter, a click-in only movement option as well as smooth rotation option, some new secrets have been added, some scenes have been redressed with new props, a major bug with an undefeatable mid-game monster has been fixed and other minor improvements and bug fixes have been applied.

User response on Steam or Organ Quarter has been very positive, gaining 98% positive reviews from users and breaking into the coveted ‘Very Positive’ review category on Steam. The title is currently on Steam with a 20% discount, reducing the price to £15.19 (GBP) from its usual cost of £18.99.
