It’s funny how talking about the past can apparently summon it. Have you ever had one of those situations where you’re reminiscing, perhaps about an old friend you’ve not seen in apparently forever and then scarcely a hand full of days later you bump into them somewhere entirely unexpected? Strange as it may seem I’ve had one of those types of situations today, except not with people but with a video we’ve featured on VRFocus.
Regular Life In 360° readers will recall last week when I was discussing hunting for an older video to highlight and stumbling across an old GoPro video about surfing in Tahiti that we featured way back when. Now, to be clear it’s not that video that has cropped up again, but at roughly the same time we also featured Rapid VR who had teamed up with the World Surf League (WSL) to create a 360 degree video. So, I was mildly surprised to find an email about the organisation in my inbox this week because they’ve stepped into the world of virtual reality (VR) again with Rapid VR, this time in partnership with Jeep.
In Jeep® Sessions: A Surfing Journey in 360° you follow WSL Championship Tour surfers Malia Manuel and Jordy Smith and experience a 360 degree surfing journey.
“Our project goal was to push the boundaries of VR technology to show what a surf trip feels like from the first-person perspective,” said Rapid VR’s Taylor Steele, co-Director on the project. “I’m excited to share this. It’s pretty incredible knowing my mom can now experience riding a 20-foot wave.”
