Star Trek: Bridge Crew Gets The Next Generation DLC

Though Star Trek The Original Series is considered iconic, many Star Trek fans, particularly among the virtual reality (VR) generation, grew up watching the voyages of Captain Picard and the USS Enterprise 1701-D. Those fans will no doubt be thrilled to hear that successful Starfleet simulator Star Trek: Bridge Crew will be getting Star Trek: The Next Generation as downloadable content.

One of the development team from Red Storm entertainment posted on the PlayStation Blog about the work done on Star Trek: Bridge Crew, the feedback received and the announcement that Star Trek fans would soon be able to crew the bridge of the Enterprise-D.

Designer Hunter Janes said that the development team had received a great deal of feedback from fans after the release of Star Trek: Bridge Crew, and it quickly became apparent just how much of the fanbase really wanted to see Star Trek: The Next Generation content.

As a result, the DLC will add the Enterprise NCC-1701-D bridge, along with rebalancing the gameplay to take its impressive capabilities into account. The Engineering position on the 1701-D bridge will be replaced with Operations – which fans will recognise as Data’s post in Star Trek: The Next Generation.

As for enemies, the Romulans and the terrifying Borg will both be added, and users will get the opportunity to make their avatars into Soong-type androids and players will of course be able to don The Next Generation-era uniforms.

The randomised mission generator ‘Ongoing Voyages’ has two new missions added, titled Resistance and Patrol, both of which have all new voice work and mission mechanics. For old-school fans, a fully-functional Planet Killer has been added.

Janes said on the PlayStation Blog: “The Borg Cube is big and scary, being chased by them is fun, and a great crew can beat them if they work together and think outside of the box. When the Borg hail me, and tell me that resistance is futile, I get the same chill I got when I was a kid all those years ago sitting in front of my television. I’m pretty proud of that.”

The Star Trek: Bridge Crew The Next Generation DLC will be coming to PlayStation VR on 22nd May, 2018. A price point for the DLC is yet to be confirmed. VRFocus will bring you updates as they become available.
