Montréal based virtual reality (VR) studio MinorityVR, in collaboration with the Canada Media Fund (CMF) Finavia, Finnair and Visit Finland, have announced the launch of a new travel VR experience titled Trek: Travel Around the World. This new VR experience will give users the chance explore the beauty of the world across a number of destination with stunning detail and photorealistic quality.
In Trek: Travel Around the World, the adventure starts within the users new Helsinki based apartment. From here they will be transports to a number of experiences which each take place in a different real-world location. Some of the destinations include catching fish in the Archipelago in order to fill the sky with the majestic Northern Lights, powering the city of Helsinki as a giant in the capital of Finland, and even tracing the stars to highlight the constellations in the sky. Trek: Travel Around the World takes the world and makes it a virtual playground for users all while showcasing the stunning beauty of Finland.
“As we explored the idea of travel in VR, we realized that a destination is never a place, but always a new way of seeing things, an emotional experience.” Said Michael Zaidan, Creative Director of MinorityVR. “So in Trek we used VR to explore the magic that infuses destinations and there will be additional locations later this year”
MinrityVR and the CMF have been looking for brand partners globally for some time to build creative and innovative VR travel experience. Each partner saw the opportunity to be a part of a cutting-edge project that would enable everyone around the world to experience the beauty and magic of Finland. No matter their real-world location, the application would ensure that each and every user felt truly there in the landscape of Finland.
“Finland is known for its tech, innovativeness and Nordic design heritage as well as being currently one of the hottest travel destinations in the world.” Explains Johanna Jäkäla, Vice President, Brand & Marketing at Finnair. “This project combines all these factors in a fascinating and never-seen-before way.”
The collaboration of all the parties was facilitated by the creative agency KLOK, who have a proven history of working with moving images, helping to capture the essence of Finland and the experience within VR. A trailer for Trek: Travel Around the World can be viewed below and the title is available to purchase on Vive Port and Steam with support for the HTC Vive headset.
