Second Version of Pimax 8K Headset Being Sent To Testers

The Pimax 8K headset attracted a great deal of attention when the Kickstarter campaign was launched, quickly meeting its target before massively overshooting it. As a result, backers and analysts are expecting much from the device, but word from early testers has raised some concerns about build quality.

As a result of this feedback, Pimax say they in the process of sending out a revised version of the pre-production ‘M1’ headset to the selected beta testers who are putting the product through its paces.

As reported by RoadtoVR, a leak has pointed to some concerns concerning both a build quality and the state of the software of the headset. The Statement from Pimax reads in full:

Hi Enthusiasts,

Thanks a lot for your passion about Pimax 8K!

As mentioned in the founder announcement (link: https://ift.tt/2Lb0JOq), the obstacles that prevent us from mass production have been eliminated.

The team and the testers are working together to speed up the product iterations. We will ship the new hardware to some of the testers soon.

Only the beta tester reviews of the final hardware and software, and the official announcements, are the trustworthy sources of information.

Please stay tuned for the in-depth reviews of Pimax 5K and 8K from the testers when the closed beta ends!

After the update, an anonymous post surfaced on Reddit that claimed there were a number of issues reported by beta testers that meant Pimax were not given the go ahead to go into full-scale mass production.

If true, the leak represents a breach of non-disclosure agreement for at east one beta tester. There have been some further leaks of internal comments that show a number of beta testers reporting critical issues.

As a number of commentators have pointed out, however, the entire point of beta testing is to single out problems before the product gets to market. Xunshu Li of Pimax responded on a forum saying that many improvements were still being made, particularly in the software in response to tester feedback.
