Life In 360°: Through The Eyes Of The Animals

We ended our immersive technology coverage last week with two videos taken while VRFocus was visiting Korea.  Both Nina and Kevin J were there to take part in an event and, whilst in the country, they also took the time to visit a number of studios, developers and other creatives who use virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) related technologies.

I mention this because the videos we published were both related to the company M2S which has developed an eye test that utilises a VR head mounted display (HMD). As it happens we had yet another eyesight related story over the weekend, so it seems like we might as well continue this trend with this morning’s Life In 360°.

We wind back a couple of years to 2016 to a 360 degree video that was published by Buzzfeed. The video itself is just of the interior of one of their offices but it’s how the video is then edited that is what brings the interest here. As Buzzfeed showcase an approximation of just what the equivalent view would be for some of our pets and other animal friends.  Humans have much better eyes than, say, a cat. Is it still believed a dog can only see in black and white? And beyond colours what kind of quality of focus do they have in their vision.

See through the eyes of a cat, a dog, a fly, a rat and a snake – and contrast them to your normal viewpoint. The snake in particular may catch you by surprise. You can view the video below.

VRFocus will be back on Wednesday with another example of 360 degree video. Until then, enjoy your week.
