A number of companies and brands have begun using augmented reality to allow consumers to try out products and see how they might look in the home or about your person. There have even been a number of make up brands which have launched virtual try-on apps for testing out new looks, however most of them need the user to download a separate app. The new tool from L’Oréal Paris eliminates this requirement.
L’Oréal Paris have used facial recognition technology from ModiFace along with AR product simulation to allow users to discover and experiment with different make up and beauty products using only a web browser.
The new ‘try on’ tool allows customers to virtually test over 300 L’Oréal Paris products, including blush, eyeshadow, eyeliner, lipstick, lip-liner and hair colour. These can all be accessed directly from the L’Oréal Paris USA website, without needing to download any additional apps.
“Our consumers are at the heart of all our innovations. We continually strive to create bespoke experiences that add value for them in new ways,” says Anne Marie Nelson-Bogle, SVP Marketing at L’Oréal Paris. “With this launch, we are excited to transform the way people can experience beauty with a new tool that offers a convenient, instant and personalized way to test L’Oréal Paris products.”
To use the Try On tool, users simply need to navigate to the L’Oréal Paris USA website and select a product they wish to try, then select ‘Try it on’ from the product page. From there, users can select ‘live try’ to use a webcam or smartphone camera, or choose to upload a recent selfie. Then the desired colours can be selected and applied and the look can be viewed. The AR images can be saved and shared across social media.
The Ar features are currently available on the L’Oréal Paris USA website, though it has not been confirmed if the try on tool will be heading to sites for other regions. AS usual, VRFocus will keep you updated on new AR products and services.
