If you’re after a mobile virtual reality (VR) headset then there a plenty to chose from depending on which smartphone you own. From dedicated devices like Samsung Gear VR and Google Daydream which only accept certain phones, to generic headsets like Merge VR or Google Cardboard which will fit almost any smartphone, there’s just about one for everyone. Soon to enter the market is smartphone manufacturer Alcatel with its own head-mounted display (HMD), UNI360.
The Alcatel UNI360 has been optimised for the new IDOL 5 but it is compatible with other VR capable smartphones with 5 – 6-inch displays. Featuring a 120 degree field-of-view (FoV), the UNI360 has top mounted navigation buttons for ease of use, a scroll wheel for spectacle wearers to focus the image and an adjustable headstrap.
User will be able to download VR content from Google Play or iTunes, and if they’re using the IDOL 5 then they can view all messages and notifications, accept or reject incoming calls, and see the space around them using the device’s camera with the pass-through camera feature.
A release date has yet to be announced but the UNI360 VR headset will be sold for $49.99 USD. The Alcatel IDOL 5 will be available exclusively at Cricket-branded stores or at cricketwireless.com beginning 27th October, 2017 for $199 so expect the headset to be arriving around then.
