L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files Confirmed for Oculus Rift

It’s a special day today as Oculus celebrates two years of Oculus Rift. With deals and offers aplenty, the company has also chosen today to announce a brand new title for the headset. Rockstar Games’ neo-noir detective title L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files will be available this week.

L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files arrived in December 2017 for HTC Vive after a short delay from the previous month. Players take on the role of Cole Phelps, a young detective who soon rises in the ranks. They’ll have to solve a number of different cases ranging from homicide to Arson, engaging characters within the world through questioning, intense interrogation and the occasional bout of fisticuffs.

The virtual reality (VR) experience isn’t the full L.A. Noire title from 2011, rather a recreation of seven cases, with Rockstar Games giving it a VR makeover. For example, the entire videogame is now played in first-person opposed to third-person, and more than 500 items within the videogame have been remodelled to allow for closer inspection.

In addition to the VR remodel, L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files features an entire area exclusive to this edition. Phelps’ office is no longer just a menu background, instead it has been made into a fully traversable location, complete with interactive items, costume changes, a record player and new dialogue sequences from Phelps himself.

When VRFocus reviewed L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files on HTC Vive it was given a full five-stars, saying: “The delivery of unique characters impresses a sense of urgency, empathy and often distain unlike any other videogame experience, playing into the strengths of the VR medium by placing the player face-to-face with convincing digital human beings. L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files presents an unwavering argument for VR as a compelling entertainment medium, and should be welcomed as a yet another stepping stone to true presence in digital worlds.”

L.A. Noire: The VR Case Files will debut on Oculus Rift tomorrow, Thursday 29th March, 2018. For any further updates on the title or for Oculus Rift’s anniversary, keep reading VRFocus.
