Co-op wave shooter Battle Bows received a free content update and a PSVR 2 version has entered development.

Released last July on Quest and PC VR, Battle Bows tasks you with defending your castle from Balloonies. Releasing a sizable "Bow Showdown" update, developer WIMO Games confirms the gameplay mode sees archers joining one of three competing teams to secure the highest score. Winning these fights helps unlock new talents like reduced elemental power cooldowns or improved range.

This update also introduces the Winter Keep map, featuring more than 40 pathways for enemies to strike from and defenders can trade arrows for explosives. A 'Legendary' difficulty mode is now available with 16 waves of deadly enemies and the 'Legendary Badaboom Boss,' alongside a new crossbow weapon.

We had mixed impressions in our Battle Bows review. Despite finding it entertaining, we didn't believe it had much longevity due to a lack of content, though this update may address that concern.

Even if WIMO Games is able to successfully attract players with only the current content available in Battle Bows, the distinct lack of things to do will inevitably become a problem without further content updates... It might be worth consideration for someone looking to play a new VR game with friends for an evening, but in its current state, you’re unlikely to get much more out of the game than that.

Battle Bows is available now on the Meta Quest platform and SteamVR, while the PSVR 2 release window remains unknown.

Paper Beast returns with an enhanced edition on PSVR 2 and crossbuy discount for original owners.

Initially released in 2020 on the original PSVR and PC VR, Paper Beast reaches PSVR 2 alongside a flatscreen edition on PS5. A surreal adventure filled with origami-like creatures, you're tasked with navigating a large virtual ecosystem filled with digital life forms. On Sony's latest headset, the Enhanced Edition promises improved visuals with HDR support, smooth locomotion movement and an expanded sandbox with more creatures and plants.

We enjoyed Pixel Reef's adventure in our Paper Beast review in 2020, calling it an "amazing technical showcase for PSVR" while praising its "authentic" virtual ecosystem.

It is a game not content with just one miracle, be it the authentic, almost documentarian approach to a virtual ecosystem, nor the technical milestones such a feat requires. Even its set of puzzles somehow emerge as a remarkably natural extension of its core themes and systems, creating a cohesive and curiously precious VR game to be preserved and savoured.

Paper Beast Enhanced Edition arrives on September 27 for PSVR 2 and PS5 for $24.99. Elsewhere, it's out now on PSVR and SteamVR. If you already own it on Sony's older console, a discounted PSVR 2 upgrade is available for $4.99.

Mixing magic with Lovecraftian horror, The Events At Unity Farm arrives on Steam Early Access.

Developed by Titan1Studios, The Events At Unity Farm takes inspiration from H.P. Lovecraft's stories as well as '90s point-and-click adventures. Merging adventure, dark fantasy and "a dash of steampunk," this VR game focuses on Ruth Bowie, a shy teen descended from occult scientists. Sent back in time to prevent a disaster, you wield magic to defeat enemies and solve puzzles, upgrading your abilities as the game progresses.

Detailed in a Steam FAQ, the early access release includes 3-4 hours of story content, two boss battles, two mini-bosses, six locations and the first act for an Arena Mode. By full release, The Events At Unity Farm promises 10-12 hours for the story, four major bosses, eight mini-bosses, additional spells and combos, more locations and a significantly expanded Arena Mode.

Here's an official description:

Players must prevent the Multipocalypse by solving the mystery of what happened to a ghost girl named Alliss.  By using an ancestral journal that empowers physical magic casting, solving unique puzzles, and gathering materials to improve their skills, players will experience a fresh-take on Open-World VR that combines survival and RPG elements with shooter-style spell combat and pits you against a variety of souls-like creatures and persistent enemies in an ever-expanding story universe.

The Events at Unity Farm arrives today on SteamVR Early Access while the full release targets Q1 2025. A press release confirms a PSVR 2 edition is also planned. In the FAQ, Titan1Studios advised the early access version is available for a "special discounted price" but the game's full release price "will be moderately increased."

Team17 reveals Border Bots VR is delayed until next year, citing a desire to release simultaneously on all platforms.

Following its re-emergence last month, Border Bots VR sees you playing as a human border agent tasked with ensuring that robots have necessary clearance to enter the city. The game was set to release on September 28 for PSVR 2 and PC VR, with a Quest 2 version scheduled to come later in early 2024. However, Team17 confirmed that the PSVR 2 and PC VR releases will now be pushed back to next year to ensure a simultaneous release on all platforms.

Here's the full statement:

We’ve made the decision to move the release date for Border Bots VR to 8th February 2024. This is to ensure the game launches simultaneously on all our planned platforms, SteamVR, PSVR 2, and Meta Quest 2, so that all our players can experience the game at the same time. We apologise for any disappointment and look forward to sharing the game with everyone when it releases early next year.

We had positive impressions in our exclusive Border Bots VR preview last month on PSVR 2. Comparing it to Startenders and Job Simulator, we called it "easily one of our most anticipated VR titles," calling it a "wholly engaging" and "refreshingly polished" experience while praising the setting and interactions across this world.

Border Bots VR now arrives on February 8th for the Meta Quest platform, SteamVR and PSVR 2. You can read more about the game in our preview below.
