VRFocus has covered quite a few virtual reality (VR) arcades opening – or announcing intentions to – over the past year or so, but most of them tend to be in the US or Asia. Well this past weekend the British town of Chester saw its first open, Virtual Reality Escapes.
As high-end VR isn’t the cheapest past-time, arcades like Virtual Reality Escapes help provide an affordable alternative, offering some of the latest titles in gameplay sessions lasting up to an hour. The arcade features six booths which allow for individual gameplay sessions or they can be networked if a bunch of friends or family want to play together.
As seems to be quite commonplace with VR arcades, Virtual Reality Escapes uses HTC Vive head-mounted displays (HMDs) as its equipment of choice, and there are currently six videogames on offer. There’s dino hunter Island 359, zombie shooter Arizona Sunshine, wave shooter Space Pirate Trainer, Fruit Ninja, The Lab and theBlu.
Depending on how much you want to spend and how used to VR you are, sessions start from £10 GBP per person for 20 minutes, 30 minutes costs £15, while a full hour will set you back £25. The centre will also accept corporate party bookings for up to six people for an hour.
If you want to try VR for the first time and live nearby, Virtual Reality Escapes can be found on Upper Northgate Street, Chester. For bookings and further info head to its website.
