The year of standalone virtual reality (VR) headsets has truly begun this week. A few days ago Oculus Go hit the shelves for $199 USD/£199 GBP, offering affordable entry level VR and now Lenovo has released its latest headset, the Lenovo Mirage Solo for $399. Alongside the headset launch Resolution Games has rolled out three of its videogames for the platform, Bait!, Wonderglade and Narrows.
Narrows is the most recent of the three titles to be created by the studio, with Narrows first revealed towards the end of last year for Google Daydream. Narrows offers players a unique view of a pirate’s life, combining real-time crew-management with ship-to-ship combat, customisation options aplenty, and rogue-like replayability on the high seas.
Wonderglade is a carnival-themed mini-game collection where players can putt, tilt, spray, and spin their way through the six new takes on traditional carnival games.
Bait! is Resolution Games’ most well known and popular title, having first launched on Samsung Gear VR it’s now racked up more than 2 million downloads states the team. The videogame features five different lakes, each with varying fish species to collect throughout.
Each of the titles has been upgraded to take full advantage of the new headset’s inherent features, including integration of WorldSense motion-tracking and six degrees of freedom (6DoF).
“We are super excited about the emergence of standalone VR headsets like the Lenovo Mirage Solo. The accessibility in regards to price-point, ergonomics and upgrades in functionality are a big step towards mainstream for the VR industry,” said Tommy Palm, co-founder and CEO of Resolution Games in a statement. “Specifically, the integration of new technology like six degrees of freedom and WorldSense motion tracking means our games become incredibly more immersive and exciting for players as they can lean in and explore the fine details of scenes and gameplay elements. For instance, on Narrows you can look into the pirate ship model and inspect the rooms, ropes and rum as crews run throughout.”
Bait! is available on the Daydream platform for $7.99, Narrows retails for $9.99, while Wonderglade is completely free. For further updates from Resolution Games, keep reading VRFocus.
