It happened that very day, with consumers in 23 countries around the world able to order the device from Oculus.com for $199 USD (32GB model) or $249 (64GB) model), or for those in the US at locations like Best Buy. Thanks to Oculus Go‘s integration with Oculus’ Mobile SDK there’s a massive range of Samsung Gear VR content available, so below you’ll find a mixture of new titles for the headset as well as some old school Gear VR favourites that shouldn’t be missed.
They Suspect Nothing
When it comes to mobile virtual reality (VR) titles British developer Coatsink Software is well versed in this category, having created Esper, Esper 2, A Night Sky and Augmented Empire for Gear VR. For it’s first outing on Oculus Go the team has created a mini-game mashup involving robots in a world devoid of humans. You have to perform various tasks to prove your not a human, completing games against the clock to score as many points as possible.
Anshar Online
VRFocus got a brief taste of Anshar Online when Oculus first demoed the standalone headset at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2018, instantly impressing. A followup to the highly popular and well received Anshar Wars 2 for Gear VR, Anshar Online goes even bigger and better than before, offering rich visuals, and more than 50 missions that can now be played in teams of five.
Dead Secret Circle
Another sequel, Dead Secret Circle continues Robot Invaders’ story from the original Dead Secret. For players after a more intense gameplay experience involving scary moments and lots of puzzles, Dead Secret Circle takes place in 1970s Chicago with you playing investigator called Patricia Gable who’s on the hunt for a serial killer called The Laughing Man who seems to be able to enter people’s dreams.
B-Team
Adding to the list of new titles launched for Oculus Go this week is B-Team. This on-rails first-person shooter (FPS) involves an alien invasion, plenty of guns and lots of carnage and explosions along the way. Published by Oculus Studios and developed Wilson’s Heart studio Twisted Pixel Games, B-Team is ideal for those after some instant action gratification.
République VR
One of the bigger adventures on this this list, République VR is another Oculus Go launch day title. It’s stealth-action videogame that explores the perils of government surveillance in the internet age. With over 10 hours of gameplay, République VR has players controlling the fortunes of Hope, a woman trapped inside a mysterious totalitarian state who must hack her way to freedom.
Pet Lab
One for the kids, Pet Lab involves creating, training, and customising a wide variety of magical creatures. From manipulating eggs and hatching critters in all shapes and sizes to making potions in the kitchen and adorning creations with a variety of horns, tails, ears and custom furs, there’s plenty to do in Pet Lab. The creatures can then be trained in the den to hone their skills and compete against players in the Royal Rumbleshire Tournaments.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes
An oldie but a goldie, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes by Steel Crate Games was one of the earliest examples of local social VR multiplayer, highlighting the fact that VR doesn’t have to be a solitary experience. The VR player has to diffuse a bomb, unfortunately they have no idea how to as each bomb is made up of different modules that have to be solved individually. To do this all the non-VR players have a bomb manual and must guide the person in VR to the correct solution.
Catan VR
A brand new title, Catan VR isn’t solely for Oculus Go as it also supports both Oculus Rift and Samsung Gear VR. Experiment 7 has brought this classic boardgame in VR, offering four player tournaments online as well as a single-player to learn the ropes. Players take the role of settlers who need to establish colonies on the islands of Catan, acquiring resources to build infrastructure and roads whilst engaging in trade with other players, all with aim of growing large enough to get the ten victory points needed to win.
Wands
Another cross-platform multiplayer experience, Wands puts you in the shoes of an apprentice magician who must do battle in one-on-one matches against other wizards. With a small selection of spells to begin with, as you level up and become stronger you’ll gain access to better spells offering a wider choice of tactical opportunities.
Skylight
One of the most addictive strategy experiences for Samsung Gear VR, Skylight by indie developer E McNeill is a turn-based sci-fi videogame involving epic spce battles. With both single-player and multiplayer modes you choose which craft will offer the best strategic edge before heading into battle. With 15 unique ship types and 36 campaign missions, a skirmish mode and online, there’s plenty to keep you busy.
